DTN brush cutter mowers are roadside-maintenance equipment designed for use on motor-graders

DTN brush cutter mowers are roadside-maintenance equipment designed for use on motor-graders.

These industrial hydraulic attachments brush cutter mowers are a vertical-shaft brushcutting head that is mounted on an articulating arm. Since graders are often under-utilized, the DTN brush cutter mowers can be put to work on any available grader. The faster traveling speeds of graders means that roadside maintenance work can be done up to four times faster than with a mower mounted on a conventional tractor.

DTN mowers use vertical-shaft brushcutting disc technology with two freely rotating knives and a head mounted at the end of an articulating arm, a design that offers considerable advantages.

DTN models also include one or two axial-piston motors, a cooling circuit, and an electric-hydraulic control panel in the operator’s cab.

DTN brush cutter mowers for graders were previously marketed under the names BM Super Cut, BM Super Cut II and Gridz by the original manufacturer located in Castlegard, BC, Canada.

There are three (3) models of the DTN brush cutter mowers: one with a 1,2 m (4-ft) brushcutting head, another with a 1,5 m (5-ft) head, and a third with a patented double head providing a total cutting width of 2,4 m (8-ft).

brush cutter mowers for motor-graders

  • 1 - Easy to install without removal of grader blade

Brush cutters mowers for Graders: Easy Setup

Some grader-mounted roadside maintenance solutions require replacing the grader blade with the brush cutter system. This approach may help give old retired graders a second lease on life, but it is not practical in the case of newer models that are still used for grading.
DTN brush cutter mowers are front mounted on graders with the central grader blade left in place. The DTN then simply has to be connected to the grader’s hydraulic system and control panel to get the most productive roadside maintenance solution up and running. The only other step is that an additional pump may have to be installed to supplement the grader’s hydraulic system.

  • 2 - Easy to remove providing fast changeover between roadside grading and maintenance work

    Easy maintenance

Brush cutter disc technology has been around for some time. Whether based on fixed teeth, limited to a single rotary blade, or consisting of a rotary disc with two or more free-swinging blades, vertical shaft brush cutters are technically fairly straightforward. They have the advantage of being less costly, although they may never achieve the productivity of fixed-teeth brush cutters.

These straightforward and universal vertical-shaft brush cutters mowers, available in the DTN and DAV, product groups, offer ease of maintenance. The blades are easy to sharpen, and to replace, and any necessary repairs to the main disc drive system are generally easily done.

  • 3 - Highly productive unit, doing the job in certain situations of four conventional tractor-mounted mowers

    Productive

One popular brushcutting technology uses rotors with free-swinging blades, also known as flail rotors. This system normally consists of a horizontal shaft on which blades are mounted and swing freely around a horizontal axis. One of the oldest brushcutting technologies, it was introduced with the idea that the freely swinging blades would avoid being seriously damaged whenever they hit hard objects such as rocks.

The initial premise is accurate but does not however take into account the fact that such impacts stress the blade axle, and hence eventually cause serious axle damage. In addition, the knives turn even when the cutting work is being done. When a tree is being chipped, the cutting angle of the blades will change as they hit it some 2000 to 3000 times per minute. And given they are not in optimal position, their performance will suffer.

The blades used in DENIS CIMAF rotors are fixed and the cutting angle remains constant, thereby maximizing their performance.

  • 4 - Easy to maintain, thanks to the straightforward, well-known cutting technology

  • 5 - Impressive reach owing to inherent stability of graders

Brush cutters mowers for Graders: Quick Coupler

DTN brushcutter-mowers can be mounted on the front end of a grader with a quick coupler mechanism. The unit can therefore be mounted or removed in about 10 minutes, which makes it easy to shift from grading to roadside maintenance work.
